Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Wase Village, 2 km east of Erhai Lake in Dali County. The reference section is at the area of Qingshan and Hengjing of Eryuan County (100o14'E, 25o 54'N), Yunnan. It was named by Xiao Yinwen in 1972, and was published by Yunnan Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphical Scale (1978).


Lithology and Thickness

Clayey chert. The lithology is characterized by gray-black and gray-white thin-banded siliceous sediment intercalated with pink shale. About more than eight beds of massive oolitic limestone bearing phosphorus and manganese occur in the upper. The thickness is 676.3 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact to the underlying Lianhuaqu Fm.

Upper contact

Disconformable contact to the overlying Carboniferous Hengjing Fm.

Regional extent

The formation is mainly distributed in the area of Wase, Eryuan, Huangjinwan of Yongsheng, Alengchu and Mingyin of Lijiang County, east of Erhai Lake in Dali County and Jinping area.

Fossils

It contains tentaculites Styliolina sp. in the shale and brachiopods Productell ? sp., conodonts Palmatolepis gr. grabra, P. subperlobata in the uppermost part.
